The Wasp - Texturing - The begining, Stinger

Using paint i created this texture for the stinger or my wasp. I had never created a texture for a model before so i did not know how it would turn out.

I applied the texture to the stinger, and used the UVW made modifier to arange it. I used the cylindrical property and made it so the cylinder wrapped around the stings and i manipulaed the map until i was satisfied with the result.

The Wasp - Wings and pre texture veiw

For the wings i used the skills in which Richard tought to use during the leaf tutorial. I have made the wings slightly see through but not to much and i wanted the detail to stand out. I was very happy with the completion of my wasp model and looking forward to texturing it.

The Wasp - Legs and Anteni

Using the guidence of the backing image i extruden out the legs of the wasp and shaped them, i found after doing this once i became very familier with the toold that max has and i found the other 2 legs and the anteni much simpler. The toold i got used to the most making the legs where the inset and the bevel tool, the 2 tools where very handy in the creation of the legs.

The Wasp - Face and Eyes

Using the face image i shaped the face of the wasp. Once i had the face to my desire i created to spheres for the eyes, and shaped these with the scale tool and placed them.

The Wasp - Stinger

To begin the wasps stinger i extruded out of the joint between the body and the stinger and i extruded out to each different segment of the wasp stinger.

Once the Stinger had been extruded out i shape the stinger by moving the verticiers to match the out line of the wasps stinger in the picture. i dide this for both the left veiw and the top view.
Once i had finished this i had a basic outline of a wasp in which i am very pleased with.

The wasp - Side View

Once i had finished extuding out the head i used the side view port in order to shape the head and the body to more of a wasp shape. I used the see through option in the object properties to make this process easier as i could see the wasp from benieth. Whilst in the view port i began work on the stinger by extruding out of the back of the body and moving the vertex's to create the jointh between the body and the stinger.

The Wasp - Head

Using the top view port i extruded out the neck of the wasp. From the neck i extruded out three times and extrude out the side of the head. Once i had the polygons i needed i used the vertex tool and manipulate the head into shape.

The wasp - Body

To begin the wasp i used a cube in the top down veiw port of max. I moulded the cude to match the left side of the wasps body and deleting the other half of the cude. Once moulded i activated the modifier symetry and aligned the other side of thee body correctly.

Guidence images

From wittgensteinforum Tuesday 17th november 2009.

For guidance with the head of the wasp i used this image in the back view in max.
From Broadland Pest Management Tuesday 17th november 2009.

For Guidance with the height of the wasp and the lenght of the legs i used this image in the left view in max. From Local Government Association of South Australia Tuesday 17th november 2009.

For guidence with the width of the wasp on the head, body, stinger and the location of the legs i used this image in the top view of max.

Wasp - Stamp 1

For stamp 1 i have decided to do a wasp, with the different sheapes in the wasp i think it will be interesting to make.

SWOT Analysis

Strengths

I believe my strengths are getting used to the tools in 3ds max quickly by following and understanding Richards tutorials and being able to learn other techniques on the internet to help plan and progress with my stamps.

Weaknesses

my weaknesses are I have lack of confidence in the work I produce and I find it hard to create a model from scratch without using a reference image. I also finding mapping slightly confusing, so texturing my models is becoming slow.

Opportunities

I really enjoy using 3ds max, modelling and animation is one if the things I’m looking into for a career so learning and using the tools in 3ds max is helping along the way to achieving this.

Threats

having to use some form of reference image to be able to start my work, although over time the more I use max the friendlier I will be with the tool so being able to start models will be much easier.
